Salty satisfaction: why salt-based e-juices are great nicotine hits

Fashions and fads come and go and nowhere does that seem truer than in the vaping world. Or is it? Nothing happens by accident; nothing happens just because everyone else is doing it – and few vapers are ‘sheep’ (otherwise, so many of us would still be smoking, let’s face it!). So, it is then with the increasing use among vapers of slim, small pod devices because their ever-deepening popularity can often be attributed to fluid that more often than not goes in them to be vaped – salt-based e-liquids or the more specialised nicotine salts.

Now, most regularly consumed vape juices contain nicotine, right? Yes, they certainly do and always have done, but recently many of them have seen their nicotine content cut back (see below for the specifics), which has opened up a gap in the vaping market for salt-based takes on them that are ideal for high nicotine levels.

Indeed, the heavier the nicotine in a ‘conventional’ e-juice the harsher the throat hit (it’s a general rule of thumb), which for most vapers isn’t the most pleasant experience. Yet, with salt-based e-juices – and nicotine salts – this effect is far more often avoided; they’re highly potent but not irritating, let alone unpleasant, to vape. And, of course, they give off that buzz of a cigarette – but without all the tobacco, its tar and extremely unhealthy chemicals…!

And what about that throat hit?

To be fair, though, it is true that salt-based e-juices are becoming ever more popular too they offer vapers a stronger throat hit than many of the vape liquids available nowadays. Thanks to the clampdown on the nicotine levels that e-juices can now contain due to recently introduced EU-wide legislation, many ex-smokers are seeking a vaping experience with a bit more punch; throatier hits.

And it seems many are finding it via nicotine salts (or ‘nic salts’, as they’re sometimes referred to); after all, for many such vapers the throat hit they deliver is similar to that which they recall back when they smoked tobacco. Some vapers, of course – former smokers among them – certainly do prefer the smoother draw that vaping, in its great diversity, can deliver too, though, it’s only fair to say.

Sating those cravings

So then, if you can’t help but (still) crave your nicotine fix from vaping, then nic salts can undoubtedly be a satisfying solution. This is because, although they help deliver a throat hit, for sure, but one that’s far from the harshest you might experience – all of which means you can gather into your mouth and suck down to your lungs a decent amount of nicotine with your vapour per hit; thus, satisfying those pesky cravings (no doubt a hang over from your smoking days). To wit, many nic salts do, indeed, pack something of a punch when it comes to their nicotine content (as you’d imagine, indeed), as much as each drag on a tobacco cigarette, for instance; and that ensures then that for would-be-ex-smokers looking to make the leap from tobacco to vaping, they can be safe in the knowledge that the far healthier latter practice should still definitely sate their cravings, helping them not to return to the bad, carcinogenic habit of smoking.

What about vapour generation?

So, it’s all good news for vapers with nic salts then? Well, there is arguably one drawback to vaping them as opposed to common or garden e-liquids with far lower nicotine levels. Like it or not; when you vape any vapour-producing fluid (whether e-juice or nic salt solutions) that’s heavy in nicotine it doesn’t tend to end up producing plumes and plumes of vapour. Which means that if, as you progress as a vaper, you can see yourself as a real vapour enthusiast – maybe you like the idea of eventually throwing yourself into ‘cloud chasing’ – nic salts may not be for you; indeed, ideally you’ll want an e-liquid for this practice from the likes of an e cigarette shop London (or ordered online) that’s high in vegetable glycerin (VG) content and, by comparison, low in propylene glycerol (PG) content.

Which e-cig device is best for salt-based liquids?

Nicotine salts and other salt-based vape juices often tend to be very compatible with pod systems. Unlike big, customisable and complex box mods, you’ll find that these kinds of vaping devices are relatively small, easy to use and reliably portable. Sure, they don’t come with all the customisability of a mod (box or otherwise) but they are uncomplicated and, yes, great for nic salts.
