Yes, that’s right, the clever-clever guys at Smoking Vapor are back with another pod device that’s a cracking addition to their hit Mi-One device. It’s the Mi-Pod and, boy, is it good. t shares a similar form factor with the Mi-One, only this time it uses refillable pods. Just fill up the pod, plug it in the device and vape. If this new device performs as well as the original Mi-One, fans of refillable pod vapes may want to consider it.
The look
Coming in metal finishes (rainbow, gold, white and black) and digital finishes (grey, orange, blue and black), as well as somewhat pricier exclusive finishes (red, white, pink, sea dragon, pearl dragon, golden dragon, black sand), it’s a fine piece of kit, all right. Just like the Mi-One, the Mi-Pod includes a detachable lanyard – kind of a throwback to the old eGo-style pens – but unlike the Mi-One, filling this new device (with its built-in tank) requires using swappable 2ml pods with built-in coil heads.
The Mi-Pod’s body is manufactured from plastic, but its metallic version’s covered in thin metal plates, making it a fingerprint magnet. Alternatively, the digital finish-toting versions use textured decal stickers, which may be subject to peeling off — so don’t pick at them! On the metal version, you’ll find Elvish engravings on the sides. Very Lord of the Rings-y!
On both versions, next to the mouthpiece, there’s a tiny metal plate with faux screws engraved in it, which looks like it’s from the early nineties. In addition, the Mi-Pod “M” logo on the body of the device functions as your e-liquid window and has a similar outdated design aesthetic.
The fill-up
Now, the downfall of too many pod vapes tends to be the filling process, as only too many pod-vapers can attest. But this doesn’t look to be an issue with the Mi-Pod at all. Why? Because it’s simple and easy. All you have to do is merely unplug the rubber seal and then, yes, fill it up. You’ll doubtless like how the rubber piece doesn’t come out completely, reducing your chances of losing it. The pods snap into place with an audible click.
Using a needle-tip or unicorn bottle for the filling-up is optimal, naturally, but you may find you can proceed to fill the M-Pod with a typical glass dropper bottle if you do so with some proper applied sue care. The pod is optimal with nic salts too, but you using any juice containing less than 70% VG ought to fine, frankly.
Power her up!
And now to the power button. A word of warning – it’s very small (under 4mm in width and about 1.5mm in height; yes, really), so it only protrudes a tiny bit. Fortunately, though, it only needs to be used for switching the device on and off. Indeed, five quick clicks of the button to initiate the device and you’re good to go. A blinking LED light shines through the clear mouthpiece, indicating that the Mi-Pod is ready – it’s draw-activated, so you can just puff on it without pushing a button. And, to enter stealth mode, hold the power button for a mere five seconds. And so, to the actual vaping…
The vaping experience
The M-Pod is certainly making waves with eager vaping experts and getting reviews for its actual vaping experience. Very few reviewers are mentioning dry or burnt hits but, of course, as with any pod device, you’ll want ideally to give the thing around a day to fully break it in.
The vapour production tends to be solid for a 1.0-ohm coil and, when in use, it makes a high-pitch crackling sound. Reviewers report an airy drawing action, yet one that’s still suitable for mouth to lung (MTL) vaping. Bee ware too that, should you prefer a tighter draw, you might want to cover the airflow hole with a thumb while in the act of vaping. The wider airflow setting allows you to vape anything from 50/50 nic salt to higher-VG liquids – win-win! – and this cracking new pod includes a silicon plug for those who want a more traditional MTL draw.
