Burnt Tastes And How To Stop It

We’d rather a cookie crisp flavoured vape juice than a “coil crisp” one.

Vape juices are now so advanced you can get almost any flavour you could think of wanting to taste, and then some. With the weird and the wacky flavours out there which have included pizza and even cod, one that’s never been attempted on purpose is burnt metal. There are good reasons for this, one being that no one wants a vape juice which tastes like burnt metal. However, those who are unlucky enough to have experienced a burnt coil will have the taste burnt into their memories. This is not just an unwelcome surprise during a leisurely vape sesh, but is also damaging for both you and your vape device.

Why do you get a burnt coil?

First off, let’s have a look at how the internal components of the vape device work when they’re doing their job correctly. Only when you understand a vape devices technical processes will you understand how and when it goes wrong.

When you hit the power button on your device, electricity is sent through the battery and into the coil. The coil is connected to the wicking cotton and atomiser head. The wicking cotton is soaked in vape juice, saturating it so that when it heats up, the liquid around the cotton and heated by the hot atomiser head is vaporised and inhaled.

The burnt taste is acquired when there is either not enough e liquid in the wicking cotton, leading to the cotton itself burning, or when leftover juice in the wick is overheated and the propylene glycol inside it turns into formaldehyde, making it taste burnt.

How to combat a burnt coil

So with that information, what is the best way to combat a burnt vape coil? When it comes to the crunch, your best bet is to cut off the symptoms from their source. That means ensuring that your wick never goes dry and that you are not burning your e liquid. So when faced with problems concerning the coil and an overpowered device, you could also be seeing an increased chance in that dreaded burnt taste!

Stop chain vaping

Chain vaping is a habit which many of us will be prone to slipping into. When you have that perfect flavour and you’re faced with no constraints in your vaping, you could end up absentmindedly vaping. Whether it’s at your desk at work with the thumbs up from your boss to vape inside, or if you’re chilling out on a beach or park on a sunny afternoon, there’s plenty to keep you chain vaping. This could put a strain on your vape device, and dry out your cotton without you realising. Before you know it, you’ve burnt out your coil! Keep a tab on how much your vaping and try to give your device a little time to rest from time to time.

Make sure you prime your coil

If you don’t prime your coil could be faced with a burnt coil before you’ve even started vaping. Priming a coil basically means making sure your wick is soaked with vape juice before you start vaping. To do this, fill up your tank and that wait around five to ten minutes so that your wick ahs time saturate the vape juice. Another method to prime your coil, is to take a few puffs on your vape device without pressing the power button, sucking the vape juice onto the wick.

Turn down the power

Turning down the power on your vape juice will put less of a strain on the system. You may find that you’re producing less vapour, but the process will remain safe and help you to avoid those nasty burnt coil incidents.

Less sweetener and more PG

Sweeteners in e juice means more sugar. The hotter these sugars get, the more they will caramelise. This means that they will clog up the wick and burn up. More Propylene glycol will stop the thicker vegetable glycerine from gunking up the wick and coil.

Get to know temperature control

One surefire way to defend against burnt tastes is to get a device which uses temperature controls. With these, you can more accurately find your favourite vape settings without damaging the taste or devices components.
